This lovely open garden needed an update to accommodate new ways of living.
Having been previously laid mostly to grass, the clients wanted to introduce several areas for both entertaining and relaxing at different times of the day.

A shift to home working had created a requirement for a sympathetic garden office building. The clients wanted to retain much of the lawn while adding in colourful borders, creating pretty views to be seen from the patio doors and the new office space.
A cool grey patio was installed between the patio doors and office building, connecting the two spaces seamlessly. A raised bed at the edge abuts the lawn, delineating this paved space and drawing the eye along a gradual shift in the level of the ground.

This area is visually connected to the rest of the garden by neat, clean paved paths. Sharp edges and crisp angles keep the whole garden feeling neat and tidy. Stately seasonal planting brings annual colour and structure to the borders, without the need for much maintenance. Climbing roses will scent the air around the pergola over the dining area. Productive elements in the garden include fruit trees - both within a small new orchard, and espalier fruit trees on the back fence.
